Cost of living
Living in Belgium costs roughly the same as in most
Western European countries, being just above the
average for the EU-28 and level pegging with both
the Netherlands and France.
In Flanders, rents, childcare costs, education and
healthcare are all eminently affordable compared
with other countries. And our subsidised social security
system leaves families with enough of their gross income
at the end of the month.

“The social welfare system in Belgium is better than in Australia. So if you go to the dentist here, you know it’s basically for free, whereas in Australia it costs a fortune. Factors like these must also be taken into account.”
