Mobility
In international comparisons, Flanders ranks very highly
for mobility. Its trams, buses and metro systems
provide speedy urban transport, while an extensive
network of motorways, railways and bus routes link
its major towns and cities with the Flemish hinterland
and beyond.
Flanders’ central location in the heart of Europe makes it
readily accessible by car, rail or plane. The Flemish
Region has no fewer than three airports: Brussels interna-
tional airport (Zaventem), Ostend and Antwerp (Deurne).
“The buses are very good, I must say. Very punctual indeed!”
“Flanders is really great for public transport, and the fact that your transport costs are reimbursed is wonderful, and probably rather unique!”

Many employers pay towards or fully subsidise their employees’ journeys to and from work, provided that they commute using public transport. All public sector employees have their transport paid for.
