Cost
There may be no such thing as a free (school) lunch,
but the Flemish government has invested massively in
affordable education.
Indeed, the Constitution even stipulates that
compulsory schooling (education up to and including
the age of 18) must be free.
So all that parents are left to pay for are textbooks,
materials, school trips and study visits.
The average outlay per child for such items is as follows:
Level of education Average annual cost | Average annual cost |
Pre-school | €273-302 |
Primary | €333-496 |
Secondary |
€600-1100 |
University | €2,136- 4,870 |
Compared with other regions and countries around the world, Flanders’ university registration fees are very low. Enrolment costs just €590, offering excellent value that only few countries can match.
