How is Flemish research funded?

In Flanders, research is funded at different levels.

Universities and research centres (see the section
entitled Research landscape) have their own funding.

In addition, several agencies also provide funding.

The Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) is responsible
for basic research. The Institute for the Promotion of
Innovation by Science and Technology in Flanders (IWT)
focuses mainly on strategic basic research and applied
research.
